About the Author

J. Mike Byrd is a retired Aeronautical Engineer, business owner, Math instructor, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Helicopter Pilot (military and civilian). He has two Masters Degrees and a Bachelors Degree in Engineering, and two years of Bible College (BIOLA University). His only credentials in the area of Theology and Eschatology, other than two years in Bible College, would be a virtual life time of personal study of the Word of God. His books are the product of over 50 years of studying the Bible, Science and Psychology.

Born and raised in a Christian home, the son of a preacher man, Mike was instructed in the Word of God and the faith from early childhood. He began studying his Bible and memorizing scripture as a young adolescent. His father pastored a number of conservative evangelical churches, of the Independent Non-denominational or Baptist denominations. He attended BIOLA College for two years during which time he took almost all of their courses on doctrine (all except Ecclesiology). His goal was to become a missionary pilot so he left Biola to take get training in Aircraft Mechanics (at Los Angeles Trade Technical College), and to take flying lessons. However, during that time he became very disillusioned with the whole Christian life as he was experiencing it, and made a conscious choice to walk away from that life of faith. For 17 years he lived in virtual denial of his faith, and like the Prodigal Son of scripture, chose the pleasures of the world. He did pursue his dream of flying, spending most of four years in the Army as a helicopter pilot, including tours in Viet Nam (1968-1969) and Germany. Upon leaving the Army he worked seasonally as a helicopter pilot crop-dusting while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. That led to his career in Engineering working for Boeing Vertol and General Dynamics, as a design engineer and eventually Research and Development Project Manager.

While employed as an Engineer Mike began to study psychology eventually earning his Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from National University (which eventually led to a 10 year career as a Christian Counselor). During that time his earlier biblical training and knowledge of scripture began to come back to him, realizing the wisdom and truth of the biblical concepts and principles. By that time he was becoming aware of his own spiritual needs, beginning to see the consequences of a somewhat sinful life and lifestyle, and realizing his own inability to change himself. Knowing that there is a God (largely due to the Apologetics he had learned as a young man, especially the science of Creation versus Evolution), he began to ask himself what kind of fool, knowing there is a God would live as if there is no God. This led to getting back into the Word of God searching for truth, allowing the Spirit of God to work in his heart (mind), and eventually repenting and committing His life to trusting, obeying and serving God.

That launched a whole new chapter in his life, as he began to pour himself into studying the Word, seeking the guidance and enlightenment of the Holy Spirit alone. Realizing that something was missing in his earlier training as a young man, he chose to try to start from scratch, considering everything he had been taught to be suspect, to be critically examined. He deliberately chose to put aside all the Commentaries and theology books written by men, to just let God’s Word do the speaking. This was transformative as he began to see things he had never seen before, life-changing truths that had amazing power to change his life to begin to experience the abundant life Jesus promised. In the process what he learned directly from scripture resulted in many changes in his theology and doctrinal views, which find their way into his writings. Not all such insights are always well received by the Christian community at large, as he has often met resistance and even surprising hostility from pastors and leaders in churches where he became involved. But it was some of those very teachings and interpretations of scripture, and that kind of leadership in the churches, which had led to his own disillusionment as young man, and his belief that since he had accepted Christ as a young man it didn’t matter how he lived since he had his ticket to heaven. His mission and passion now is to expose some of those false teachings which are counter-productive, and to share the powerful amazing truths will transform lives, as they have in his own life.

Since committing his life to Christ (which was like being born again again), God has restored what the canker-worm had eaten, blessing him with a Godly “helpmeet” Christian wife and two daughters (now adults) who have their own relationship with Christ. His wife is an area director with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) taking Good News Clubs into the public schools. Mike has gone on to work in various churches and Christian organizations, usually as a teacher, counselor and Bible study or small group leader. His main ministry in his retirement is writing books, mostly derived from his personal study of scripture, science and psychology.

His books on Revelation and Eschatology are a product of an intense ten-year study of end time prophecy, and in particular the book of Revelation, resulting in a complete verse by verse commentary on the book. What he brings to the table is the critical objectivity and analytical approach of an engineer, as opposed to that of so many theologians with preconceived doctrinal biases and presuppositions.
